Project 8 – Drawstring Bag

Probably one of the simplest thing I’ve been making for years is a simple drawstring bag. You can do it with anything and everything, from using leftover linens to fat quarter squares to mismatching scraps of fabrics. I’m not going to dive into the nitty gritty of how to make one, but you can check out some free tutorials at Sew, Mama, Sew. The tutorials are variations of a very simple idea.

I used the leftover scrap material from my wall organizer, since I had a lot of it left. I cut out four bags with contrasting future drawstring strap. I’m going to point out that you don’t *have* to make the strap out of material. You can use cord, string, yarn, ribbon, whatever you have at hand and leftover in your notions.

This is the whole reason why I decided to make the bags. I’ve been using ziplocks to store things in but they just breakdown after a while or I’m too rough with them. It’s nothing like carrying a bunch of things, a ziplock bag in hand and it decides to rip and spill everywhere on you.

Week 7 – No Path is Equal

When I started this, I had nothing planned. Well, I had an idea, but no idea how to approach it. Mmm, that’s not even necessarily true. I apologize in advance, I took the pictures at night so was limited to the terrible lighting we have in the house. (I did try using a flash, but that was even worse.) Yes I know, I could take pictures when there is natural light out, but I never really think about it during the day. I experimented with a gesso modeling medium which creates a thickened texture effect on the canvas or whatever you’re painting on. It has potential. I’ll probably use the rest of it in an art journal to experiment more. Continue reading

Project 5 – My Hidden Sunshine

Another acrylic painting. I like getting messy. I used techniques from a book called Creative Wildfire. It’s one of my favorite books on the shelf as it concentrates on using anything and everything to get a desired effect. I used glue, salt and a palette knife. I really wanted to use a 3″ paint brush too but that is actually something I don’t have in my collection of brushes *le gasp*. I used an inch brush instead. Continue reading
