Crochet – Afghans

So you’re tired of doing the simple little crochet things. What the heck is the biggest thing you can think to do next. So, what can test and challenge your stitch counting skills? Afghans! These can take forever to make, but can be rewarding all the same. Whether it’s for decorative or actual use (I use mine or give them away as gifts), they can be a source of pride to show off just how much your skills have grown.

I like afghans that show off different styles of stitches usually using a multy colored yarn. There are also blankets done completely out of granny squares, like a quilt, angle weaves and rippled style afghans. Below are various patterns for blankets I think are pretty. I’ve starred the ones I plan to attack at a future date.

Sophisticated Crochet – a design completed primarily with single crochets. *

Make It Quick – A mile a minute style afghan. *

Fan Afghan – A fan shaped afghan.

Chunky Ripple – Angle styled afgan in multiple colors.

Trellis Afghan – This blanket requires other skills, such as the ability to cross stitch. Cross stitching isn’t complicated.

Puff Motif – An afghan made out of circular motifs.

Lastly, Free Patterns has a wonderful selection of various afghans. And, best of all, membership is free! *
