As I Stand

I have so many different interests that it’s sometimes hard to organize my thoughts. Desperately, I need to grasp where I stand currently in my artistic hobbies and determine where I want to go with things. I have to wonder if I’m not prone to ADD the way I leap between things…

Photography

It’s more or less a hobby. I don’t plan on taking my photography beyond my simple point and shoot camera. What I do enjoy, is bringing in low quality photo’s and trying to enhance them in Photoshop. It’s amazing how dramatic you can make a picture once you try to enhance it. The only project I’m participating in is the community one at Codexed, Picture This, and I’m not even trying to take above the grade pictures.

Digital Art – 3D, Fractals

I’m learning to texture better and build models. Since this can be an expensive hobby, I would like to sell some of the textures and models I come up with, but this won’t occur until I’m satisfied I’ve got a handle on everything. It’s probably going to take a bit. I’m going to release some free textures to receive feedback from people. I actually have one about ready to go, I just have to add thumb pictures and make sure everything loads right.

I’m starting to get a better handle on Bryce. I managed to render some successful abstracts that I still have to post process before I release for viewing pleasure. My next step is to tackle Hexagon and Cararra. Time, currently, is a limiting factor.

Digital Art – Manipulation/Painting

With a recent piece last weekend, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at more photo-manipulation. It’s fun and there’s really no limit except your imagination about where you could go with things. There is so many useful resources out there too, it can be a little overwhelming. Where I want to go with this is to eventually master digital painting on the computer. It shouldn’t be a surprise, but I want to specialize in fantasy and science fiction work. For now, I’m probably going to concentrate on abstract, attempting surreal based pieces.

Jewelry and other Artisan

Working off the computer breaks up the monotony of staring at a screen for too long. I’m currently trying to master the fine art of polymer clay. It is a hard medium to understand, but after seeing what other designer’s have done with it, it’s a medium I want to master. I think it would enhance my jewelry two fold because I could make uniquely different pieces.

I’ve already started setting up an Etsy shop. The shop will sell one of a kind designs. I’m debating on selling completed pieces and maybe jewelry kits with any beads I happen to make. I have time to think about it though as this won’t come to fruitation until after September 1.

***

September 1 is like a magical date for me. I’ll be finished with my Master’s and will have the time to pursue several of these hobbies until my eyeballs bleed. I’m looking forward to it.
